DCP Entertainment Launches Inner Space With Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen Podcast
NEW YORK, March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- DCP Entertainment, a media production and distribution company, today announced the launch of Inner Space with Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, a new podcast focused on emotional health and well-being.
Hosted by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, Ph.D., the Founder and President of Give an Hour who was named in 2012 to TIME Magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, the show discusses mental health, emotional well-being and finding our healthy "inner space." Dr. Van Dahlen is also a consultant for the hit ABC drama, A Million Little Things, which features plot lines that tackle topics such as depression, suicide and the impact of trauma.
Dr. Van Dahlen interviews public – and private – figures from the world of entertainment, business, religion, and politics to help listeners understand their own Inner Space, develop emotionally healthy habits, recognize the signs of emotional pain in ourselves and loved ones, and find new ways to care for those who are suffering. Inner Space also encourages listeners to share their own stories as we work together to change the culture around mental health.
According to the CDC, suicide is now the second leading cause of death for Americans ages 10 to 34 years old and the fourth leading cause for those ages 35 to 44. With only 500,000 mental health professionals in the U.S., there is a critical need for additional platforms and support systems to discuss the emotional challenges we all face.
"Talking about our emotional health more honestly is the first step toward culture change – and changing the culture of mental health will lead to a healthier society for everyone," said Dr. Van Dahlen. "Inner Space features compelling stories and inspiring conversations with amazing guests! I am proud of the work we are doing to shift attitudes so that those in need are able to seek and receive the mental health support and care they deserve."
Inner Space tackles key topics of interest to anyone who is trying to better understand themselves and those they love. By exploring these topics from multiple vantage points and perspectives, listeners will gain deeper understanding and develop new insights that may improve their own emotional well-being. Topics covered include: how mental health is portrayed in the entertainment industry; minority mental health and well-being; mental health and the fashion industry; emotional challenges affecting our youth; post-traumatic stress and the military community; helping those who experience trauma, mental health in the LGBTQ community; and advances in treatment and care.
The podcast will feature notable guests such as actor Ben Foster, comedian Darrell Hammond, ABC's A Million Little Things creator DJ Nash, fashion designer August Getty, UK Minister of Defense, the Honourable Tobias Ellwood, ABC Chief Medical Correspondent Jennifer Ashton, former IBM executive Nicole Gardner, actress and host Ricki Lake, and Talinda Bennington, wife of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington who took his own life in 2017. Inner Space also features a few exclusive surprises - like special remarks by US Vice President Joseph Biden from his appearance at the 2nd Global Summit on Mental Health Culture Change in London where he addressed the importance of caring for the mental health of those who serve.
"DCP Entertainment is proud to provide an outlet to help change the discussion and culture around mental health," said Chris Colbert, CEO of DCP Entertainment. "Our company's mission is to provide a platform to tell important stories, and Inner Space does that by sharing the mental health journeys of its guests."
Inner Space will be available weekly starting March 18, 2019, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Pandora, and all podcasting platforms.
